The Ovation is a high end commemorative model. They are similar and then again they are different. I own an Ovation MM-68-7LTD and a Crafter M-70. The Ovation and Mid-Mo have a different sound. I'm sure Glauber will tell you it really depends on where and how and what you are playing, to make a fair comparison. She played it last Sunday, and seemed rather taken by it. one of whom owns an Ovation mandolin (not sure the model). Everyone loves the sound, and the guitar players all want to try it out.

IMHO, the Samick sounds better than some other imports-even though I never hear any comments on the Cafe about them-but friends thought that sounded good.
#Touch bar piano applause series
I was borrowing a Samick/Greg Bennett McCoy series A-body before getting the Mid-Mo. I'm ecstatic over mine, and tho' I plan to build an A body IV kit this summer, I know this Mid-Mo will have a place with me! You can post a wanted ad here on the Cafe, look on Craigslist, if you have one in your area, and ebay. I have pics up on different posts if you want to look at. My entire setup cost me about half of retail, so I got a great deal. I quickly settled on finding a used Mid-Mo, which I did, on ebay. There's no point in buying a louder instrument to play onstage, if I'll never be onstage, right? The more I looked and the more people I talked to, the more I realized I had no choice for the budget I was on. I also had to force myself to consider where and how I would use my instrument. Like some people, I found myself wanting to stay away from the look of the Mid-Mo, not because it's ugly, which it's not, but because in my mind the A body was 'cooler' to look at. I played F, A and flat tops at a couple local stores and liked them all for different reasons. Hopefully you'll find someone who has both an Ovation and Crafter and can compare them. Put TI strings and you lose some volume but get that beautiful jazzy sound. The acoustic sound is typical flat-top, somewhat guitar-like. Most Ovations' bridges are glued and bolted in place with screws, so they won't come out. The bridge in my Korean Ovation did separate, but that one had been a factory second, and had had problems with the bridge from the beginning. Probably not good enough for a loud session, but more than enough to play duets with a guitar or even piano (which i've done). It plays loud enough unplugged, although it won't compete with a carved-top mandolin. I haven't tried, but it's reputed to be a good thing to have in hand during a bar brawl, and after bashing a few people it will still play in tune. The American (MM68) is the one you want, mostly due to setup/action issues with the cheaper imports and a much better, thinner arm in the MM68.
